Ahh... New York City. Freak central. Crazy beautiful. It's the big apple that everyone can take a bite. And most people I know fall in love at the first bite. I visited NYC a few times when I lived in the east coast. One time I drove my car into Lower Manhattan and learned my lesson. When I graduated I got an interview here but didn't get the job, otherwise I would be calling it home today. |
This June I re-visited east coast and included NYC in my trip. It's my first time since 911, almost 3 years after the tragedy. Around WTC I saw very few traces left from the event. New Yorkers moved on. They are proud and they work hard. They are determined to re-build. But I have to say the skyline of Lower Manhattan without the twin towers looks only half as good as before. The 911 event made a lasting impact on everyone. To enter any museum or public building, airport-level security is mandatory. The Statue of Liberty Island was finally re-opened but you can only walk around the island without entering the statue (as of June 2004). I'm glad I've been up to both the top of WTC and Statue of Liberty many years ago. I think it will be a while before I visit NYC again. |
