Update (1/29/2005): Over the years I've seen every free entertainment Vegas has to offer. So I put together a travelogue (actually 3) to show them. This is possibly the most comprehensive Vegas free entertainment collection you can find on VT. I'm trying to put together another travelogue for paid-entertainment soon.
To most, Las Vegas is America's number one sin city. To me, it's the best hiking town. And Las Vegas Blvd, known as "the Strip", is the place to go. Where else can you walk from Venice to Monte Carlo, to Egypt, and to New York all within a few miles? And when you get hungry from the hike, just enter one of the world class restaurants, either Japanese, Italian, French, or American Buffet. At night, there are many five-star hotels to choose from, all at very reasonable price. |
Living in southern California, I visit Las Vegas often. Not really into gambling, but I'm intrigued by the city's ever-changing streetscape and non-stop entertainment. I first realized Las Vegas is great for urban hiking when I got stuck inside Caesars Palace. I was trying to catch the Pirates show at the Treasure Island Casino a couple blocks away, but couldn't find my way out. It took me more than half an hour and a couple of miles of walking to finally get out of Caesars and get there. The casinos, especially the ones on the Strip, are huge. They are far apart from each other, even though from the map they seem right next door. And the casinos are designed in a way that it's very easy to get in. But to get out it's like an obstacle course. Wear a pair of comfortable shoes and the trails are fun. |
The city has been growing at an incredible pace in the past decades. Today it continues to transform itself from being adult-only to family-oriented, or even cultured. Las Vegas is always under construction - old casinos are blown down and new ones raised. And finally, what I like about Las Vegas is that, no matter where you come from, you too have a chance to return home a millionaire. |

| Pros: | "Creative architecture, world class but inexpensive food/room/entertainment for everyone, and a chance to go home a millionaire." | | Cons: | "Air pollution from the ever-increasing traffic and the smokers everywhere." |
