Update (7/10/2004): It's been reported that, a wild fire is currently threatening Kitt Peak Observatory, world's largest collection of telescopes, 60 miles southwest of Tucson. Hope all is well. Meantime I am glad I visited it earlier this year before any possible damage. See "Off the beaten path" on my Tucson page for Kitt Peak photos.
Tucson is the second largest city of Arizona, just 2 hours south of Phoenix. Tucson's weather is the typical dry desert with lots of sunshine. But at the elevation of 2,400 feet, it's much cooler than Phoenix or Yuma. |
In April 2004 I spent three days and two nights in Tucson. Here I slowed down my pace a little and took my time to visit the following sites -- 1. Saguaro National Park (see separate travel page) 2. Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum 3. Mission San Xavier Del Bac 4. PIMA Air and Space Museum and the boneyard. 5. Kitt Peak National Observatory 6. Downtown and "A" Mountain |

karraokey Sat Oct 27, 2007 21:23 UTC I went to the Pima museum on October 19, 2007 and this propeller Air Force One was the only plane open to get entry into. There is a pic on the wall of Bobby Kennedy talking to LBJ while both were on the plane. | Jim_Eliason Sun Dec 3, 2006 01:05 UTC great page! | calcaf38 Sun Jul 30, 2006 23:03 UTC Beautiful page. mht. I spent one night in Tucson in April 1984, and I remember the most beautiful sunset, and the purest air. | zuriga Sat Apr 29, 2006 15:13 UTC Lovely page. I sure miss living in Tucson - difficult trading it for the UK! The mission is one beautiful place.. especially scene from afar which is a wonderful view. |
