Homer is located near the southern tip of Kenai Peninsula, at the end of Sterling Highway. It's the kind of magical place where you know the road will end soon, yet you keep going without looking back. Awaiting at the end of the road is the panoramic view of Kachemak Bay and Harding Icefield, where I took the above picture. At the time I could see half a dozen big and small glaciers spill out of the Icefield; the photo can hardly do the justice.
The small fishing village of Homer turns alive in the summer. Seasonal workers come to the harbor looking for jobs processing or cleaning fish. Backpackers thumb their way in and camp on beach along Homer Spit. The amazing water of Kachemak Bay attracts countless kayakers and charter fishing boats. In town, local artists inspired by Homer's scenery set up galleries on Pioneer Ave.
In May 2002 I visited Homer and spent a night there. My stay in Homer was short, but its harmonious collage of wildlife, scenery, and human settlement was imprinted on my memory forever. The photo to the left was taken in Skyline Drive. It's used on my VT homepage.

When looking through your pages, I noticed you and I have been to all the same national parks, including in Alaska. Have to spend time reminiscing. GREAT Homer tips!
My neighbor was badly burned in a house fire some years ago. Half of her face is horribly scarred, so she hides from strangers. The Old Believer Russians didn't move here until 1986. They are surrounded by homesteaders who moved here in 1950.
I'll be spending 4 days in Homer in July 2005 and after seeing your photos, I can't wait. May we have weather as fabulous as what you had. I liked your tourist trip tip! haha!
Homer really grabs you, darn that moose, always trying to get into the picture.
Homer is wonderful, one of my favorite places, love your page on it! Did you get across to Seldovia? (FYI, no not Exxon or Prudhoe, I work in the Interior, on the pipeline) - cat
wonderful page and pics , simply great! Thanks!
The women flied inside and locked the door, you made quiet an impression I must say. -lol- Great page and beautiful photos, I can believe that you felt trapped there, your heart that is.
You are so right! When I reached Homer after 25+ years all over Alaska I truly felt at home! Great pages!
