The Venetian: A clash of cultures!

  • We stayed here summer 2002, in large suite-like rooms, and with a glamous bathroom. The hotel was quieter than others on the strip, but hosts a lot of conferences. Occassionally we got lost amid the conference delegates and the conference centre.

Unique Qualities: Unbelievably (or not for Las Vegas, where anything is possible) this hotel has a couple of museums. While we were there, one had a exhibition on Motor cycles, (we gave that one a miss); the other of 20th century art from Russia (Hermitage museum collection) and US (Guggenheim museum Collection) AMAZING. We forgot we were in Las Vegas for the afternoon.

The (three) pools on the 5th floor is great. Watch out at 5pm though, when the Treasure Island show starts; the explosions can be quite frightening when out of context and unexpected!

    Bally's Las Vegas: Paris/ Bally's

  • Although separate hotels from the outside, these two hotels are linked internally, (making it so much easier to get lost!) We stayed in Bally's which was fine (we only stayed for 1 night).

Unique Qualities: The 'Frenchness' is quite authentic; french bread and cooking are great

Aladdin Resort and Casino: Eastern Promise?
  • Tip Rating:

  • by Emmjai

  • The Aladdin Hotel is one of the new places on the block. Its theme is the eastern Bazaar, though I've not stayed there yet!

Unique Qualities: Large Shopping Mall, with an oasis over which a storm is 'released' every hour or so.

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino: A Jungle experience with added sharks!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • A relatively up market Vegas hotel, and the southern most of all the major resort hotels on the strip.

However, being at the southern end of the strip means quite a journey to get to other places in the town.

Unique Qualities: Great pool area, real sand, lazy river, and wave pool. Possibly the best in Town.

Rio All Suite Hotel And Casino: Carnival Time
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Las Vegas Rio All Suite Hotel And Casino
  • The Pool complex at the Rio
  • by Emmjai

  • An economical, off strip accommodation, with a great pool, good sized rooms, and a great buffet.

Unique Qualities: Its main drawback is that is isn't on the strip, so getting to and from the Rio and other LV casinos is more challenging, (no bus/Trolley/Monorail route), thought there is a shuttle to and from Harrahs.

Hi Mary Jane! Thanks for sharing your Las Vegas adventure! Your photos & tips were very helpful, especially about the transportation. My kids love buffets too!

I never saw the Pirate show - poor captain!! Great tips - Vegas is a brilliant place!!!

The Pirate show is changing in '04! But it will still be a pirate theme. And the Alladin will become the new Hard Rock casino -- LV is ever changing :-)
