  • The Town Hall was built in 1750, and looks very majestic when viewed through the elaborate golden gates, reputably build for Buckingham Palace, whose occupant (Queen Victoria) rejected them. Never mind, her loss was Warrington's gain!

  • The father of Charles Dodgson, (AKA Lewis Carroll of Alice in Wonderland fame) was the rector of this chuch on the southern outskirts of Warrington at the time of his birth, and there are several references to him and Alice in Wonderland both in the church, and in the town.

  • Now outside Warrington Town hall, these gates were designed to be outside Buckingham Palace, but apparently Queen Victoria didn't want them.
Well London's loss was Warrington's gain (and have you seen the boring gates now outside Buckingham Palace?

Hi Mary Jane, Warrington seems like a very nice place to raise a family. BTW I don't mean to be indelicate but...just what are those "Skittles"? ...Tom

G'Day Mary Jane. So which is the more preferable, being part of Lancashire or part of Cheshire? Please tell us some more about this seemingly delightful place in the NW.

Very interesting page on your hometown. I'll be stopping here for all of five minutes later this month, changing trains en route from Liverpool to Glasgow. :)
