One of the many wonderful things about Venice is the way the light changes as the day progresses, so it is worth going back to the same place at different times of the day to see the effect of the light. In early morning, St Marks is quiet, before the day trippers arrive. Even the pigeons are still asleep!

As the day wears on, the crowds increase, and the feel in St Marks Square takes on a cosmopolitan feel. The pigeons mix with the children and the day trippers with the lovers. All the world is there

The oiginal four horses of the apocolpse, are no longer of display on the outside of St Marks, you need to go into the church itself, to the museum there. Although the Venetians themselves aquired the horses by stealing them they are determined the same fate will not befall them! Given their age, the horses are amazing, and well worth the trip inside to see them
