The place for honeymoons! I first visited Venice on honeymoon, but my husband and returned the several years later, and these photos are of that second visit.
My first impression of Venice was that I needed to 'reset' my history clock. In the UK , there is little freestanding buildings older than 16th Century; though of course there are lots of ancient bits and pieces, e.g. Roman or earlier. In Venice 16th Century buildings are the 'babies', and that really thrilled me. To think that many of the buildings have been lived in for over 1,000 years, and are still being used on a day to day basis was awesome. |
|  | Transportation %s One day we went round Venice in a vaporetti, and it was fascinating to see just what is transported by boat. Hotels send their washing, locals bring their shopping, the rubbish barges, the builders rubble, everything in Venice has got to where it is on a boat! And almost every thing has gotten on and off that boat by hand, since the boats are generally quite small.
So I guess it makes sense to use the boat as a market store too. |
Mardi Gras %s Of course Venice is well know for carnival, and Mask shops are everywhere. They are wonderful to look at, but can be very expensive, (Certainly all the ones I liked where!) | | |
