I am actually Jersey born and was raised in the countryside with my two sisters. It is a truly beautiful island and I would thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking for a little piece of paradise. If you need to know anything just get in touch!
Jersey is the largest Channel Island closely followed by Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm, Brechou, Jethou and Lihou. And it doesn't end there - there are also rocks in the sea which become islands at low water - such as Les Ecrehous and Les Minquiers. Amazing eh?!
Jersey is positioned in the Bay of Mont St Michel off the north-west coast of France, and forms part of the last vestiges of the Duchy of Normandy still attached to the British Crown. It is the most southerly of the Islands and has one of the best sunshine records in the British Isles with an all year round mild climate.
The Island is a walkers and cyclists paradise with its network of green lanes and cycle routes, in addition to the beautiful cliff path walks. Historically Jersey and the other Channel Islands were annexed by the Normans and became part of the Duchy of Normandy established by Rollo the Viking in 911. When William the Conqueror invaded and took the throne of England in 1066, the fortunes of Jersey then became linked to those in England, although the island manages its internal affairs through its own parliament, the States of Jersey.
Why come to Jersey? Well there is something for everyone - from stunning coastlines with fabulous beaches to museums and restaurants which will leave you lost for words. There is a lot to see but a weeks holiday should be ample to see the things that interest you. |
| | Jersey Sit now and rest now, watch the sun linger, See incoming tide, round rocks it does finger. Rest in the warm sun, at dusk of the day, Silently hoping, more time you could stay.
Watch diamonds dancing, upon the cool water, Hark to the shore birds, their cry doesn't falter. Breathe in the salt air, feel in your being Taht you are a part of all you are seeing.
Stand on the shoreline, watch the tide falling; Hear now the seagull, it's you he is calling. Follow the cliff path, count the small flowers, Hold onto minutes and while away hours.
Could there be an island, ever so splendid? That when your heart's aching, here it is mended. The sea and the wind join in the refrain... "Come back to the island; to Jersey again". |
Island Magic Sunny shores and gentle breezes, Peace of mind and lazy sighs. Fluffy clouds, slowly rolling Casting shadows from the skies.
Stroll the meadows and the pathways, Walk island ways as men before. Stop and listen; skylark singing, His voice, your heart as one will soar.
Walk the downlands, rising smoothly Till upon a crest you stand. Snake-like coast spreads round below you. Silver sea and golden sand.
Feel the peace that did desert you, Let waves of worry wash away. Let the island spirit heal you, Catch the moment as you pray.
The island with its special magic Calls you when you feel lifes strain, Promise as you breathe its beauty You will surely come again. | | |
