Kitsilano: THE Place to Find Batteries in Vancouver!

|
Name of Shop: Infinite Electronic Source
Are you looking for a battery or battery charger for your camera, mobile computer, alarm system, calculator, hearing aid, or other electronic gadget? Then this is the only place you should go! They have an enormous assortment of batteries, including some that are very difficult to find. Another thing I really like is that they will recycle your old batteries, whereas most of the larger "box" stores just throw them in the garbage.
What To Pay: I shopped around and found the prices to be very reasonable.

A & B Sound: A great local electronics/music store

|
|
Name of Shop: A & B Sound
A&B Sound is a shopping institution in Vancouver. They set the standard here for insanely low priced CDs. In fact, they deliberately keep their music prices low so as to entice customers into the store past TVs and other sorts of electronics. There are several outlets in and around Vancouver. Nowadays I'd also compare prices at the Future Shop and London Drugs but A&B Sound continues to be competitive.

Name of Shop: Tierra Del Sol
I just checked out this wonderful store, not too far from the cruise ship terminals. They have a wide variety of art and clothing from Mexico and parts further south. It was particularly interesting to see because I was just down in Mexico for 2 months!
What To Pay: Prices are somewhat higher than one would pay in the lands where the items came from but they're not unreasonable for similar Canadian items

Name of Shop: Frank's Barbershop
After being back in Vancouver several months and trying out 2 other hair salons, I finally found one that I really like. Frank's Barbershop is located in the heart of the South Granville shopping district. It is now run by Frank's daughter, Rosanna. She is personable, funny, highly skilled, and efficient. In other words, the perfect place to get your hair cut!

Name of Shop: The Lobster Man
I've never seen such a wide assortment of fresh oysters, lobsters, and crabs as at the Lobster Man. They have a fairly large facility and are so able to equip it with large water tanks from which you can pick out the precise items yourself.

City Square: Elegant shopping beside City Hall

|
Name of Shop: City Square
City Square is a fairly exclusive mall situated in the center of Vancouver. It has a variety of shops and is a nice place to stop in for a coffee and dessert. They offer free wireless Internet: WiFi SSID = "CITYSQUARE"
What To Buy: It has a special significance for me because the mall now sits where I went to Kindergarten. And rather than just knocking down the original greystone building, they incorporated many of the original walls, inserting a glass roof and many windows. If you want a coffee try the "Milieu Cafe Moderne" upstairs. They offer really good coffee and great seating that provides a good view of the mall.

Name of Shop: Book Warehouse
Long before Amazon.ca there was Book Warehouse. When I was a kid this place served as my one & only spot for buying Christmas gifts. My parents and uncles were always good at feigning surprise about what was inside the thin rectangular wrapping paper! There are several locations throughout Vancouver.
What To Buy: Book Warehouse stocks a mixture of new books and somewhat older ones. I don't know how their prices compare to the online bookstores, but I always enjoying browsing in their stores.

London Drugs: One of Vancouver's Favourite Shopping Locales

|
Name of Shop: London Drugs
Don't be fooled by its name, London Drugs is much more than a drug store! It's more like a small department store. It has a little something for everyone. It's a favourite of Vancouverites because they provide clean, well lit stores, low prices, and great service. I once heard a rumour that aspiring female models are frequently hired as cashiers. Shop at London Drugs and find out for yourself!

Marisola Thu Jul 16, 2009 19:51 UTC I really enjoyed the political quiz you recommended. My scores were -5.0 and -0.92, similar to Mandela and the Dalai Lama!
