This photo was taken on the hike up to the top of Mount Work, a bit north of the city of Victoria. It's a relatively easy hike that'll take an average person about 1.5 hours to get up and 30 minutes to get down. The view at the top is spectacular!

This was the view I had from my 20th floor apartment, a few blocks south of the Legislative Buildings. This view is looking SW, with part of the James Bay neighbourhood in the foreground.

It's an interesting phenomenon that so many of us live in a place for a long time but rarely (or never) see the amazing sights that tourists rave about. Such is the case for me with Butchart Gardens. I lived in Victoria between 1997 & 2000 but never visited this world-class attraction. Finally in the summer of 2002, at the insistence of a certain young lady, I visited the Gardens. We spent the whole day there, taking all sorts of photos. If you stick around until night, be sure to stroll through the Sunken Gardens. It's hard to believe that something can be THAT beautiful!
