A beautiful pond in Northern Bennington - Bennington

Bennington is a wonderful little town in SW Vermont that we discovered quite by accident. We were driving from Montreal to NYC and wanted to make it further south that day. But it was getting late and the place looked so inviting, so we stayed. I'm glad we did!

Bennington Battle Monument

Bennington has a special place in American history. On August 16, 1777 the Battle of Bennington was fought between a local citizen militia called the "Green Mountain Boys" and the British forces.

Though the British were superior in numbers they were soundly defeated by the new Americans. To commemorate the battle a 300 foot high Bennington Battle Monument was built. It provides visitors were superb views of the neighbouring states of New York and Massachusetts.

Excellent information and a nice start to this page. That part of Vermont is very scenic. I have driven thorugh here and was very impressed.
