I traveled to Amsterdam last May of 2003. It was my second time there in less than a year and I love it. If you like a metropolitan city crammed with people, buildings, cafes, and more people than this is the place. The italian food is to die for, and you can't skip dessert especially the e'clairs.
This time I stayed for 4 nights and five days which was enough time for me to relax. I met a friend there who flew to London on one of the Concord's last flights. If you are a female traveling alone during the day, don't be afraid just aware. I had a great time being by myself and every one was friendly. Also in the city, they have police on foot, bicycle, car, and horse everywhere. The police were helpful, if they see a person walking with there bag easily accessible for a pickpocket, they will make you aware of it.
The first time I traveled to the Netherlands, I stayed in Vollamdam which is about a 45 minute drive to Amsterdam, which was fine but the city is where it is happening.
I plan on taking my sister next time, which I am planning on going in August 2003. My sister has never had a vacation in her life and I feel this place is something that life can't live without.
