Nightlife Spot: Goree Island Kora private concert

My friend Eric bought a Kora instrument on a shop in the island. We was fascinated about it even before he got out of Portugal. As he collects musical instruments from different parts of the world, here in Senegal was the perfect place to get one, supposely cheaper and on a better quality standard.
Kora is a string instrument and it is played in the westernmost part of Africa in Senegal, Mali, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
For what I remeber, I think he payed something like $70us for it on a local music shop.

While we were wainting for the night boat to get back to Dakar, he tryied to play the kora on the port and this really nice ambiance took place along with the sound of the waves on this very special place.

Nightlife Spot: Dakar by night

Dakar is well known for its action. you can get many pubs with live music. On recent years many of these pubs actually closed due to the strict government policee of not selling alcohol. Many night clubs closed and many places where people could listen to good live concerts ended. You can still search as they open and change place to place on a few months.

The streets itself begining 12pm start not to be very very safe, but not very bad also.Just open your eyes and avoi darken streets specially if you go alone or like a couple only.

Nightlife Spot: Dining out in Dakar

Dakar restaurants during diner have always this cheerful music playing and maybe tv with old Kung Fu movies playing. People tend to meet in their friends restaurants to discuss their daily life and maybe life problems. You should avoid big restaurants and head to local small ones where the real people are.

Nightlife Spot: Walk around Thies by night

Thies comparing to St. Louis or Dakar is not that lively but it can surely be full of action on Friday night in every street. You could go for a night walk on the main street and see how people react on your passage there, where do people go to eat and have fun.

Nightlife Spot: Goree Island by night

You can go around the island and enjoy its night ilumination. the lights along with the water refelxe can make a very nice ambiance.
I dont think Goree Island would have problems of people trying to rob you or anything. It just lok so calm to me...
