Brown Mountains

This are amazing mountains. This bit of road from NKT to Akjoujt is ver nice. This brown hills will break the monotony of the desert you'll see for more than 150km in a row.

Dromadaries

This awesome animals can be found everywhere along the country. On the road close to Akjoujt you have lots of herds. they are free. Remeber Mauritania produces a lot of dromaderie meat. big industry since this type of meat makes part of their daily diet along with pasta or couscous.

White dunes

This is another type of dunes. So if you didnt believe my story about the different types of colours of dunes, here's the proof. Its somehow strange that I felt more heat passing this region with the white sand than when passing the orange sand, maybe this ones reflect more heat due to the cristals. maybe.

Orange dunes

Along the way from NKT to Akjoujt (256km) you'll be able to see differetn kinds of landscapes. Many sand dunes of course since you're inside a country which has only sand hehe, so here's this amazing scenery of orage dunes.

Nouamghar

Nouamghar consist on a small fisherman's village whice also have a office of the Banc d'Arguin National Park. Its a important point in the matter that almost every trip and every traveller have to stop here and wait until the ocean tide goes down and be able to pass on a 180km beach drive down to Nouakchott.

Directions: 180km from Nouakchott the capital. this road is by the beach. you can now catch a different road since the new road NBD-NKT is being constructed.

Akjoujt

Akjoujt is just a passage city between NKT and the city of Atar, 80km from Chinguetti.
Akjoujt was constructed in 1949, and its now more like a ghost town ever since the copper-mining centre closed in the end of the 80's. It seems the technical spending on the mining was just too much for the amount of copper actually digged.

Somehow in 1992 gold was found and a few bunch of australians could actually take a few dozens kilos of it per month until they went away.
