There are many versions of the origin of the town of Alcáçovas. One of the most believed history is the fact of the first roman settlement of Ceciliana, and the after Arab period, calling it Al-caçaba that means castles in Arab.

With the Arab invasions the town was totally destroyed because of the strong resistance of its inhabitants.
D. Martinho Bishop of Evora, sent people to the town to start its rebuild and gave it a special “foral” in 1258 until D. Afonso III have given it the special attribute has a town in 1271 and incorporated it in the crown possessions.
King D. Dinis gave it two “forais” (1279 and 1283) and order the construction of one of the town’s castles and inside of it a palace for his house (1290).

The treat of Alcaçovas was signed in 1479 right before the Treat of Tordesilhas.

Nearby landscape with olive trees. this area is close to a small water barrage with a big herd of cows.
