| | Colares is a village quite near Sintra and still part of Sintra’s Natural Area that belongs to UNESCO World Heritage . This village has a long history that seems to come far before the Portuguese nation has begun. There is a large number of legends relatings this area. It seems that a German countess when hear boat shipwrecked exchanged her necklaces for land. “Colares” in English is necklaces. Another idea for the name is the fact that all the small beaches aroud this area resemble the form of a necklace. This whole area also seems to be very good to grow good grapes and produce good wine. |
| | Main Square On the main square of Colares you have the Main Church, a couple of fine restaurnants, an Art Gallery and a small fountain. For what I still remember, the large amount of different colors from the buildings still persists on my mind. |
