  • TV seems to be a very important ways of making problems go away in many countries.
You?ll find a TV set in almost every little restaurant and house.

This is a view seen from the train tracks on the "ville".

  • Cansado Bay, 10km from the city centre is a must in the city. Due to the lack of interesting things to see here in Nouadhibou you have to come to this beach and enjoy the old boats. In terms of environment is obviously not correct but since the boats are already there just enjoy the dead and lost boats.

  • You can find Senegalese or Poular fishermen everywhere due to big amount of senegalese people living in Mauritania.
Senegalese are the only ones taking care of fishing in the country. Of course the companies they work for are owned by white moors. The work force is only by Senegalese.

  • Indeed unusual is to pass an airport track by foot. It’s very easy here in Nouadhibou. Just go to the Numerowat district and in direction of the ocean pass the fence without the guard sees you and you're there. If someone asks what is your business there just say you're heading Cap Cabano and you had no idea how to reach it.

  • This is a very unusual mosque for what I've seen. Its inside the port of this big enterprise called SOPAC PP, the first fish exporter in Mauritania.

Islam is the official religion of Mauritania. Despite ethnic and cultural differences among Mauritanians they are all bound by a common Muslim attachment to the Malekite sect. Ots a country with 100% muslims.

  • All along the coast of Nouadhibou there are a large number of "dead" ships. In terms of environment its not very clean and proper but it does look nice and strange for anyone coming from western countries.
Walk along the ports and coast of the city, from the early Numerowate to the Cansado (where you have the ship cementery) and enjoy the scenery which is almost unique in the world. Its not every country that have something like this as big as here in Nouadhibou.
Many ships are not even from Mauritania, other world countries companies leave their boats to die here causing ocean polution in a very large scale.

  • This guy can make wonderful lady's dresses. All colorful and very African. This shop is located in the Grand MArche near the Mahfood street markets in the "ville".

Is very usual to see people working if you go to the Market. They are normally nice, although blacks are nicer than whites. stay a while and talk with them. People just love to talk cos they pass the whole day sewing and nothing much goes around anyway. You'll be the big thing of the all year. Children are always around so conversatoins will always be cheerful.

  • Nouadhibou (formerly Port Etienne), is situated about 15 km north of Cap Blanc, the southern tip of the Presqu'île de Cap Blanc (Cap Blanc Peninsula). Presqu'île de Cap Blanc is extending about 45 km south. Cap Blanc shows as a white plateau, the end of which falls vertically to the sea. The cape is composed of friable rock, which is gradually being eroded by the sea, consequently its shape is subject to alteration.

Interesting place -- have stayed there twice -- both times in a "room". They don't improve. Nice enough people. Chance to meet other travellers and desert guides and change money.

A very captivating tale of your experiences in this OTBP location! The local customs and derelict ships along Cansado Bay were especially interesting. I can see why a spot this isolated might be of interest to certain 'organizations'!
