There are not many people travelling to Iran and not to Tehran. People travelling to Iran prefer getting away of this huge 12 million people metropolis and see more ancient and historical places than cars, supermarkets and pollution. Tehran was the most exotic place I've been in a long time. When I talk about being exotic I don't mention beaches with palm trees and sun, nor big avenues with Oriental look reminding the ancient routes of the Silk Route, no. I talk about the idea people and obviously me have about this city which all its past activities and news with foreigners made it a hard core place to visit. Stories of kidnaps and suicide Islamites trying to kill people, danger for westerns in every corner and quite hard to get around. Well this was all I had inside my head hehe. Every changed and my opinion on this capital changed as I found it very empry in terms of things to see and get interested in.
Tehran has been a capital for only two centuries and apart from the Big Bazaars, a couple of important mosques and some good museums, Tehran only makes the perfect place to start your journey in Iran. Decades of uncontrolled urban growth makes the city interesting to look at, already giving you a glimpse of what things around here look like, you’ll feel you’re getting close to Pakistan and India on the chaotic streets with shops and supermarkets and street vendors all signs written in Farsi.

| | Freedom Tower-The Gateway to Tehran Hossein Amanat was the architect who designed this famous tower in Tehran, symbol of moder Tehran. Azadi square has an area of 5 hectares and its just huge. The Azadi Tower was built in 1971 to celebrate 2,500 years of Persian civilisation. The tower is 45 metres tall and helds a cultural complex inside. |
| | Tehran Bazaar Once being the focal point of the city, this huge Bazaar and shopping complex makes the perfect place for shopping. If you want to buy something from modern to traditional you'll find it here. Its narrown streets full with action, smell of spices and varnish from furniture, bikes and donkeys. This place is one of the only places you should spend a couple of hours in the whole huge city of Tehran. Tehran's 10km covered bazaar begins at Sabzeh Maidan, also known as Green Square. This huge bazaar stands to be the biggest in the whole Eastern World. |
