If you are in Ticino you definitely have to go to a Grotto, a typical rural restaurant you usually find in the woods and where you can enjoy local specialities. This one is the cheapest Grotto around Lugano, and it's also one of the best! In Summer you can stay outside and eat under the trees.

Favorite Dish: Try Polenta (special made corn) with Porcini (mushrooms) and Horsesteak!

If you want to eat pasta and you don't have the possibility or the time to go to the "Ristorante degli artisti" described above, you should try this place. It's in the center, between via Nassa and the Lakeshore, with a view on the lake.
There are some different specialities every day.

Favorite Dish: Everything you get here is good pasta. If you like seafood you definitely have to try the "spaghetti alla pescatore".
My other favorite dish is "spaghetti store special": spaghettis with porcini mushrooms, garlic, bacon, cream and tomatoes.
