Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and of the portuguese culture. It is a mix between thousands of years of history and a lively contemporary culture scene.
It has a strong romantic side with it's old and somewhat dirty houses and the narrow passages in the quarters on the two main hills, Alfama and Bairro alto.
In Belem you can see the buildings where once the famous portuguese navigators started their expeditions to conquer half of the world.
Lisbon has also a melancolical side which finds its expression in the Fado, a music that has been a part of Lisbon since hundreds of years.
Let's hope that the modernisation which you can see on the outskirts doesn't affect the still charming and romantic historical part.
