Transportation: Thank you Ryanair

    Getting TO/AROUND:
Ryanair is a gift from heaven.
Whatever people say about it , it is safe ,
    easy , fast
    and cheap.
The staf is friendly and efficient...

I know about the snobs... bla bla this , bla bla that.
It is a choise. I like to spend my money on
    a fine restaurant instead of....

And no I don't miss the miraculous white
    sandwich that doesn't crumbles.
When we arrived there was even a men with
a little yellow car waiting for us and waving
orange flags. Not the best performance I've
ever seen , but the intention was nice. ;-)

Have a look at their website.
In my experience there are always good
connections between the city you are visiting
and the 'alternative' - smaller airport.

For Rome-ciampino you got a few options.
A bus brings you to Termini - 8 euro , and
you can get a return ticket as well for 12 euro.
We chose the 8 euro option.

By public transport you can get a bus to
metro-station Anagnina and get on the A-line.
We chose that option to get back. Cheaper
but it takes a little more time.
(it was the most easy option for us.)

    Getting TO/AROUND:
I realise that this is hardly a tranportation tip...
BUT , I enjoyed it so much.
If your having your day of , no museums that day
or you had you portion already , go to the
    artificial lake in Villa Borghese.

    3 Euro for 20 minutes a person isn't little ,
I realize that. But you can chase the turtles ,
wave at the 20th century statues in the
    roman temple and just relax....

    Walking: Via Appia Antica
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
    Getting TO/AROUND:
We really enjoyed our 3 km walk on the
via appia antiqua. The surroundings are really
great. Problem was , at the end of our walk the
tree of us decided that walking back wasn't a
nice sollution. The sun was burning unmercifull
and we had seen it by now. We didn't want to
loose more precious time in Rome.

Problem is that ALL the tourist guide books
say that there is no way bak , then to walk.
Well , we Belgians , described by Ceasar
as the bravest of them all... we didn't
    believed that.

First you stop for a drink at the crossing of the
'via tor carbone' and the 'via appia antica'.
A fresh water fountain is waiting for you.

Then you walk a little bit down the road ,
busstop 'via erode attico' is waiting for you.
Get on the bus and get off at metro station
    'arco di Travertino'.
Now it is just a matter of minutes
-your on line A.-untill your back in the city center.

    Metro-Bus-Tram: Take the bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
    Getting TO/AROUND:

Rome has got an easy and convenient bus
circulation circuit. The bus stops are ranked
on a board with the number of the bus.
The stop you are waiting at is circled is red..
all the names under that are stops.
    That is very easy.

Keep an eye on the symbol on top.
An owl means it is a night bus.
They also come frequently... if you learn
to read those tabels and find out were there
are gathering points you can get home
    every time during nighttime.

One thing is - the busses can get very 'filled'.
Sometimes it feels like a tin of sardines in
    their own soggy.

    Take also the small busses 116 , 117 , 118.
They bring you true little streets and are quit
    convenient as well.

Since we stayed for a longer time we chose to
take a week card for 16 euro.
We never had a check. You can also get a ticket
for one day - 4 Euro.

In Belgium we are used to time tables ,
and the bus comes late anyway.
Here such things do not excist.
    Just wait is the message...
we never had to wait long.

Interesting pages, beautiful photos. You are an intellectual traveller. And obviously you like to see beyond. Tanti saluti.
