Pasticceria Dagnino.: Fabulous Sicilian pastries!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Pasticceria Dagnino.

We had to wait for somebody and just killing time...
I must have picked up an angel for some
    guidance because I'm normally never
tempted to walk in a gallery. But this time I
did. I walked into the 'Galleria Esedra' and found

    Pasticceria Dagnino.

And it was exactly what we were looking for.
Hmm , it didn't took us much time to decide
that this was the place we would wait for a
    while. A lot of sweets , icecream...cappucino..
We tried tree of them and they were delicious.

A horn filled with ricotta and sucred fruit ,
somesort of 'profiterolles' with a really
    tasty mocca-edge from the fridge....

The service wasn't perfect , but we
forgot about that right away. They got this
unhandily Italian system where you order
and pay first and then they bring it to you.
Very inconvenient if you don't know the
language. (and it take a lot of time as well)
Oh , the interior isn't anything special.
    It's ok.

Some people also come here to eat
more regular dishes. We got right into the
deserts. Prices are higher when you sit down.
Next time in Rome I'm going to try one of
    their marzipan creations.

Il grillo Brillo: Yakkes , the sand was for free!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Il grillo Brillo

We arrived late in Rome and after leaving
our luggage in the BB we went looking for
    a restaurant. I must be honest , I didn't like Rome
    much when first meeting.
And this restaurant didn't help for sure...

We decided to sit outside , that is fine
since the street hasn't got loads of traffic
and if was a nice evening. The waitress
smacked some menu's on the table and
she spoke a few words English...
It was the kind of waitress that it doesn't mind
if your daughter is lesbian , chooses one like
her as a partner. You'll get a son in law anyway.

The English went like this ' DRINKS?'.
And that went on the rest of dinner...
The appetizer was , let's say ok.
Grilled vegetables - you can make them with
a lot more care and much tastier... whatever.
The other side of the table choose seafood.

First headdish : Pasto vongolé. Well it was pasta
and I sure spotted some mussels...
The sand was for free , and the pasta was way
too fat. bah... My messmate wasn't
    enthousiast either about his choise...

When the short haired G.I.jana yelled 'DESSERT'
    we thanked her friendly ...
It could have been nicer , my first contact with Rome.

    Their website looks nice....

Cremolati San Barbara!: For dessert only....
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Cremolati San Barbara!

One evening we were walking , not
going to any direction. We were searching
were the light and the noise came from.
Well the noise was a fantastic choir in the
sizzling hot church of San Barbara.
(the choir's name was 'officina Musicae -
and it was a sunday evening...;-))

But the doors were wide open , and some
chairs were waiting for us to rest our tired feet.
Those chairs belonged to 'San Barbara Cremolati'.
Frozen yoghurt , pancakes in a lot of flavours...
'cremolato' is a fruit flavored ice-water
made with real fruit. (I didn't liked the mint)

I watched facinated how he made the square
pancakes and chose the one with créme
    de chesnut and Grand Marnier.
I even managed to choose even a richer one
for my mate...with chocolate mousse and
    banana's. Pancake San Barbara.

    Hmmmm , music and pancakes.
    I'll never forget.

Blues café!: They all knew to find this place...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Blues café!

We needed a little break after we visited the
vatican museum and the sistine chapel
before heading to the 'San Pietro in Vaticano'.

I know Blues café doesn't sound too good.
But they had a terrace with 2 tables ,
the sandwishes looked attractive and tasted even
better. Christa enjoyed her way to strong
Italian coffe (which she ruined with hot water)
and Free's panini tasted georgeous as well.

What more would a person wish for.
Seems like all the neighbouring shops knew this
address as well. At some moments the bar
was more looking like a take away.

    La Boccacia: It was delicious...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: La Boccacia

The landlady from our BB told us that Trastevere
was the beating heart of Rome.
We were happy to believe that. AND that it
was an excellent place to have dinner.

Well it was completely different from what I
expected. What I saw were huge loads of
    tourists , eating tourist food.
I truly believe that there are some excellent
restaurants there , but how do you find them?

So when we were leaving the area we saw a
little take away pizza with 2 tables outside...
A vieuw on one church at one side , and a
little square with the obligate church on the other.

    Favorite Dish:
Basically all these places work the same...
You choose a taste , let them cut a piece ,
    they measure it's weight.
Et voila - very cheap , tasty....this is exactly what
I enjoyed. They got a wide range of choise.
Just take the one that looks appealing to you.

Seems like a popular adress as well.
People walking in and out with their boxes.

Filli Micci: Keep the best for last...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: FILLI MICCI

It there is one restaurant I am really enthousiast
about , and that counts for the three of us
it was this one. It was on our last evening
in Roma and we wanted to celebrate the
    great holiday we had together.

We had seen enough tourist traps already
and pitty for us , we tasted some too.
So we decided to stay away from the famous
    squares and the big attractions...
And that was a very good decision.

The restaurant is 'chique' but has a very
relaxed edge. The service was very professional
    and very very friendly.

We chose to sit outside --- inside you
could see the activity. Like the fish that was
presented first and then prepared inside....

    Favorite Dish:
Each of us did make an excellent choise in
appetizer. The baked vegetables were delicious
and spiced very fine , I had a fantastic
raw salmon dish , grilled for just a second
with a very fine oil... hmmm

For main dish I enjoyed the meat grilled in
the oven with cheese and vegetables on it ,
served like a lasagne. On the other side
the fresh calamares were a hit and...

The desserts sounded fantastic as well...
But a few got sold out. We enjoyed the
    simple housemade traditional deserts.

Quality is a little more expensive ,
but you'll enjoy it so much more.
