was this wonderful church.
It is very near the quay where the boat waits
for you to come back. We didn't had a clue
at which side we would arrive in Venice.
So the first thing we did was having a look inside.
'Chiesa della pieta'
Are the most common names for this church.
A third name often used it the 'Vivaldi church'.
The building has had some changes true history.
It has been rebuild on the inside to make
the acoustics better. 'Antonio Vivaldi 'worked
and composed here.
Go and have a look at the unique frescoes
by Tiepolo.
A second change was the facade. That is
a new baroque one. Something that often
has been done to modernize a lot of churches troughout Italy.
My first dissapointment happened here as well.
It is forbidden in most churches in Venice to
take pictures.
I tried to convince them that I was send
by God to take pictures and that I had his own
personal permission.
But the Italians , living so close to the pope
and having the vatican in the middle of the
country , they are above God.
I wasn't allowed to take pictures of God's house.
Well , let's try to get over it.
I bet God send one of the seven plagues
of egypt towards them for punishment.
(what about one with water. lol)

Directions: Not for from the San marco square.
What is it that people are attracted by water?
Most of us love it. It brings life maybe....
is it that.
We chose a campground near the sea at
'Lido Del Cavallino'
We drove witht the car to the end of the
peninsula.
That place is 'Punta Sabbioni'.
A lot of parking space is provided...
Of course you have to pay for that service.
They got different prices , but also a different
approach. The first one gives a ticket with
a number , so you can only get your car .
The other one has got a nice parking lady
helping Frederik to park under the shaded
garage. (which was quit hopeless and
hilarious at the same time).
Anyway , it will cost you between 5 and 8 euro.
You can also park a little farther and have a
nice walk along the water.
We were lucky , it was like if the boat was
waiting for us. 6 euro , peanuts.
And for that price we got an hour of sailing.
Don't lean over that fence to far...lol.
To be honest we found cruising towards
Venice exiting. We were like little children on their first boattrip. We didn't even knew at
what side of the city we would end up.
Address: Punta Sabbioni
When we visited Rome , I did quit some preparation.
I marked out the things we wanted to see...
For Venice I decided to have a different approach.
On the edge I bought a book on Venice in the
bookstore at the airport. But I didn't made time
to read it during the days before going there.
When we arrived early in the afternoon ,
at the campground , near 'Lido di Jesolo' ,
the day before meeting in Venice we decided
still to go for an evening walk.
I like boats , if they are large and stable.
So at 5 in the afternoon we arrived.
It was still quit buzzy ... you know Venice
doesn't have heavy traffic , there are no
cars possible in the center.
Instead Venice got traffic jam because of the tourists.
If you enlarge the picture , you can see another
bunch getting delivered by plain. ;-)
Same cathegorie as previous...
I assumed that most of the things sold
here were produced in a factory.
Well , probably most of them are...
We walked into a shop were 4 men were
making this masks. It seems like quit an
labour intensive job.
It takes some time to produce one.
That makes the price higher then the ones
sold on the street.
Btw , this shop also sells on the internet and
has an interesting website.
I said , interesting , not a good one. ;-)
You can have a look at all the different
characters.
And more interesting , read about the techniques.
Just walk in and go and have a look.
I was charmed by some of th masks.
But how do you get them home safe?

Hmm , Venice has become one big souvenir
shop I'm afraid. Not a very attractive one either.
If you've spend a couple of houres here
you will see enough masks and Murano-glass
to last a lifetime.
Still , I loved seeing this lady at work.
It was not far from the station when we saw
her little shop...
I don't like colorfull glass , but I spotted a
black and white key chain in the window.
12 euro , quit expensive...but it had something
extra because we saw her making stuff.
Interesting , because I couldn't imagine
how easy it is to melt glass and to make it
into something nice.
The miniatures we saw all over town are
amazing. Little orchestra's , giraffes...
Go and have a look ,
I think you will enjoy it.
