They have a souvenir street in Palanka raya. This area used to be dayak. The long houses are gone and the ones wich are still living in are for tourist , the other are museums.

But you can still find some dayad handcrafts. The shops are all in one street. The sell lots of stuff. Like reed baskets , wooden statues , bracelets an juwelery. They are all made for tourist....but nice things. Also traditional dayak medicine...
They will charge you a lot. BUt don't be affraid to offer a lower price.

What to buy: PLEASE DON't BUY things made of animal skin , teeth or snake wallets...
Because i think it is revolting and these where animals who lived in the wild.

If u don't have any feelings for animals of the decency to leave the stuff there...here is another reason. It is also internationally forbidden by the c.i.t.e.s. law. It will cost you a fortune when they find it in the airport...

What to pay: More then average. But say a lower price. I made the mistake at first to give the prices they asked because I was a keyhanger- 2000IR- i found that very reasonable. The owner of the shop looked upset and gave me two hangers.... (they are not to good in cheating. lol)

Bali Indah: The biggest fotoshop in Palanka raya

For all of you who ran out of photo material already.

This is the largest photoshop in palanka raya. It is a cool place and they have photomaterial - books , pencils , paper....
And by cool...I mean the films are in a cool place as that is important. If your on a special misson and you need specialised asa. (even 400) you wont find it here or anywhere else. So be prepared.

I bought this beautifull photobook with batik motive... 70 000 IR (7 euro) witch is a really large amount of money overhere.

What to pay: prices for fujicolor film is about 30 000 ir.
