While the city of Atlanta can hardly be considered "Southern" it still has, in my opinion, the charm of magnolia-mouth honeys and traditional gentlemen. I love the bright springs, green summers and vibrant autumns. And love being able to drive 30 minutes and feel like a frontporch and a glass or tart lemonade is all you need to feel good with the world. Plus, teh close proximity of significant historic sites is enriching.
Atlanta features some fun -- and very diverse -- neighborhoods. In fact, I just bought a house in one of them. It is these neighborhoods that give the city it's charm -- not the over-the-top "Gone With the Wind' references. I'd put Atlanta up against any city, any day.
1. Lightening bugs -- there are few thing more charming than sitting outside on a warm summer night and watching the blinking lights of lightening bugs --- a.k.a. fireflies
2. Kudzu -- it covers everything! It looks like green syrup covering trees, signs and everything!
3. Honeysuckle -- nothing smells better (well ... at least it's up there with homemade bread and a good-looking man)
4. "Magnolia Mouth" -- I love being referred to as "sugar," "honey," or "sweetheart" by perfect strangers. There is something bonding about these terms of endearment. Plus, I love being about to excuse any bad comment about another person by saying "Bless their heart."
- Pros:The diverse neighborhoods
- Cons:Everything is too spread out
