Things To Do: Snorkel with the stringrays
  • Tip Rating:
  • OK ... I admit ... I was skeptical, too. But the stringrays really don't bite and really aren't that scary. Take a Red Sail Sports tour to Stringray City and they will provide snorkel gear to swim with these mystical creatures.

The water is pretty shallow at Stringray City (around 10-12 feet) so if deep water scares you, you don't have to fret. The only hard part was handling the current. The coral reef breaks jsut past Stringray City and so you get some movement in the water that makes it a little hard to stay in one spot.

And learning how to snorkel is a piece of cake! I didn't know how to do it until 10 minutes before we jumped it -- after another 10 minutes, I was used to the breathing tricks and such.

Directions: You can book a snorkel trip to Stringray City through Red Sail Sports or through your hotel.

Just returned from a cruise in the Caribbean and visited Gr. Cayman too. The island looks pretty run-down after hurrican Ivan. This kind of destroyed my paradise imagination of it. At least the underwater world was fantastic.
