Kadjendo Guesthouse: Use the locally owned hotels
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • If you want to stay in the Kotu area but want to avoid the big hotels, we can highly recommend the Kadjendo Guesthouse, not far from Manjai Lodge on the Serrakunda road. It’s owned by Lamin Badjie and his lovely Belgian wife. It has a very relaxed and calm atmosphere, with marvellous views from the roof terrace. A great opportunity to support a locally owned business, ensuring your money stays in the country.

Unique Qualities: We started and ended our latest tour here, Lamin safely stored one of our bags which contained additional gifts and our winter clothing, at no extra charge. We also arranged for him to pick us up at the airport at a really fare price.

Suma Hotel: Serrakunda's once notorious hotel
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Suma's rooms are clean and surprisingly quiet considering its central position, right opposite the AISIA MARIE CINEMA. We were lucky to stay on the last Saturday of the month, which is designated, CLEAN THE NATION DAY. No vehicles, excepting emergany services and street cleansing trucks, are allowed to travel between 9am and 1pm. Our own countries could learn something from the Gambia.

This is a marvellous location to experience real Africa and only a stone’s throw away from Serrakunda market. We were very lucky to have fresh grapefruit juice for breakfast, taken that moment from their own tree.

Unique Qualities: The Suma in Serrakunda used to be known as the GREEN LINE MOTEL but has changed its name and ownership, to shake off its reputation as West Africa’s best brothel. The staff are very polite and courteous, struggling to carry water to the upstairs rooms during Serrakunda’s frequent water shortages.

THIS ADVICE IS ONLY USEFUL IF YOU DON'T MIND BEING HASSLED AND YOU'VE BEEN TO AFRICAN COUNTRIES BEFORE.
