We booked my Australian daughter in for two nights and paid RM185 a night, B&B.
Price for foreigners is RM210 so if you know a local, you can save RM25. (RM3.80=US$1)

It's very central to most of the action -
stuck inside the second largest shopping centre in KL;
50 metres to the Komuter and LRT trains;
One rail stop to the Central Markets (Pasar Seni) and China Town.
Twin Towers, Bukit Bintang and Bangsar also 5 minutes by LRT from here.

This tip is for those who don't like to pay for marble floors and chandeliers.

A 3, 4 or 5 star hotel in KL will cost you around US$100 per room for 9 hours sleep. That's more than US$10 per hour.

I believe that travellers (not tourists) prefer to eat and sleep where the locals do. That will cost you around RM80 (US$22) per room per night or $2.50 per hour of sleep.

For this type of hotel, your travel agent will not book for you. Reason being - he will not earn commission, will not trust the standard, and won't want you to be disappointed.
For this type of accommodation, ask the nearest taxi driver.
