The old Palace

by ogb4619 - last update: Mar 1, 2005

From the web site
About 35km south west of Seremban, this small town is worth a visit to see the old 100 year old "Istana" or palace originally build for the Sultan of Negeri Sembilan.
It's now a museum and is worth noting the external architecture and musing on the fact that this 3 story wooden building was built without the use of nails.

Next to is is the new Palace which is still the official residence of the Sultan.
For business meetings etc, the Sultan spends much of his time in the Istana in Seremban.

The road to Kuala Pilah is a pleasant drive of 30 minutes and on the way, you will see many examples of "rumah kampong Minangkabau", the distinctive architecture of the village house first introduced into Negeri Sembilan by the Minangkabau people of Sumatra, centuries ago.

Nearby is a 3 star hotel.
