Taroudannt

by sachara - last update: Feb 2, 2008

red-walled markettown

Taroudannt is a nice traditional Berber markettown, 85 KM east of Agadir. The town is surrounded by red-mud walls with at the background the mountains of the Atlas.

We visited Taroudannt in 2000, 2001 and 2008. We liked it to walk around, to look at the walls and the souqs. When we experienced the atmosphere, it looked like many things didn't change in the last 100 years.

In 2001 we visited Morocco within one month after the 11th september.
In fact I tried to book a flight at the 11th of september half an hour before the bad news, but there were no seats. A few weeks later we could book the flight, because other people canceled.
Drinking tea in Taroudannt the Moroccan television asked us an interview about tourism in Morocco in general and about tourism to Morocco after the 11th september especially. It's a pity, we didn't see the broadcasting.

I love the vibrant colours of the souqs and can imagine the hustle and bustle here.

Your impressions from Taroudannt are very similar to mine. I liked gardens of Palais Salem Hotel a lot, too.
