Ghat is an ancient trading centre at the crossroads of the Sahara caravans to Mali. GhaT is an attractive oasis town with a striking medina in the heart of the town. The Jebel Acacus is situated east of Ghat and the Tassili-n-Ajjer in Algeria in the west.
We visited Ghat in december 1998 on our way to the Jebel Acacus. The Jebel Acacus is a stunning landscape of sanddunes and dark basalt stone monoliths. This area with a incredible landscape full of rock paintings and carvings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
