Elephant orphanage David Sheldrick Animal Trust - Elephant Orphanage Review

It was nice to see the baby elephants with their keepers at feeding time. That´s the only moment visitors are allowed to visit the orphanage.

You can get a lot of information about the Davids Sheldrike Wildlife Trust. There are newsletters and booklets for sale. It´s also possible to adopt an elephant orphan. So we adopted Tomboi, rescued in the Samburu National Park. Back home we get regularly newsletters by e-mail. Meanwhile Tomboi is allready moved to the Tsavo NP to go back into the wild wthin some time.

Address: PO Box 15555 Mbagathi Nairobi 00503 Kenya

Directions: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust you can find at the Nairobi National Park Workshop Entrance at the Magadi Road. It was not easy to find. Our driver didn´t know the place, like many people along the road.

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, elephant orphanage David Sheldrick Animal Trust - Elephant Orphanage Review

At the south side of the National Park you can visit the elephant orphanage around midday. There were also a lot of schoolchildren around. Just at the moment we arrived the little baby elephants came out of the bushes for their feeding and mudbathing. There was also a baby rhino around.

The baby elephant orphans were rescued in different parks all over the country. When they are old enough they go back to the wild in the Tsavo Park.

Nairobi NP - Nairobi

Nairobi NP

Nairobi NP, impalas National Park Review

We visited the park in the late afternoon. We made a lot of detours in the area where normally the lions are, but we didn´t see any lion around.

In another area of the park at a parking place we saw a lot of people very busy with the preparations for a huge party in the middle of the nature. There were tents, large tables, huge amounts of drinks and food. It looks really crazy to organize such a party at this place.

On our way back to the exit of the park we saw some buffalos, zebras, impalas and a lot of giraffes again.

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi NP, giraffes National Park Review

THe Nairobi National Park is the oldest park in Kenya, established in 1946. It´s unique to have so many different animals so close to the city. There are lions, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, cheetahs, leopards, rhinos and gazelles.

We saw a lot of giraffes not far from the entrance of the park. They were so close to the car, that we could almost touch their heads.

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park National Park Review

Nairobi National Park is not far from the citycentre. It´s amazing to drive around in the park and to see the buildings of Nairobi at the background. The night before we heard the lions, while we were lying in our tent at the Rangers campsite 3 KM from the park

You can only visit the park by car, so you have to book a tour or to hire a car. We hired a taxi for various visits in the neighbourhood of the campsite, including our visit to the park.
