Konso

by sachara - last update: Sep 11, 2004

The Konso area has an ancient complex and fascinating culture. When a Konso warrior dies, they are honoured with the erection of a serie wooden sculptures, the so-called waga. Except the hero himself also his wives and the enemies or animals he has killed are placed on either side of him.

Allthough the warrior erection is dying out after removal and theft, it's still possible to visit these fascinating sculptures in the area itself. The sculptures have been registrated and declared cultural heritage now.

Hi there. I'm back to visiting the Ethiopians once again. I must update you soon on the little girl from E. who is now living in my village in Rhode Island.

These waga statues are superb. It mus be a very difficult task to prevent them from being stolen/bought as money is so powerful!

A beautiful little page! Those statues are amazing and hopefully can be preserved from vandalism. Great pics of the countryside and villages too!

I'd pick one of those lovely statues LOL
