Transportation: Hantour or bike?

Category: Bicycle
Getting TO/AROUND: To feel free we hired a bike for the day instead of hire a hantour ( carriage). To have a bike is easy for a visit to the Temple of Karnak. And to cross the Nile to the westbank and to go around by bike, it's marvellous. We did several times.

Ferry: on the ferry

Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: I like it to take the ferry (baladi) to the westbank. Often it is very crowded with local villagers, animals, vegetables, bikes, but it gives a lot of fun. Costs: 1 egyptian pound pp. Departure in front of the Luxor Temple.

Bicycle: By launch to the westbank

Getting TO/AROUND: If you don't take the ferry to the westbank, you can go by motor launch. Everywhere along the banks you see these boats. You can go any time you like. If you go around by bike, it's the best to start early in the morning because of the heat at midday. You pay 5 to 15 egyptian pounds for a boat.

Trains: Train to Aswan or Cairo

Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: From Luxor you can take the train to Aswan or to (or in the direction of) Cairo. To Aswan is a ride of three/four hours. We reserved for the early morning train in a second class airco wagon. They served tea and sandwiches. Departure times and fares change, so check at the station.

Ali, I can understand why Luxor is your favorite town in Egypt. The ceiling paintings are amazingly fresh! Like you, I prefer to go several times to the places I like and discover new things each time! |
