The Helnan Marina Sharm Hotel is overlooking Na’ama Bay. The hotel has a garden with a swimming pool, connected with the 250M long sandy beach. The hotelbuilidng is situated at the landside of the street. To reach the beach you dont need to cross this street, because from the terrace at the first floor you can take the wide fly-over and walk straight into the garden with the swimmingpool and the poolbar and from there to the beach.

The hotel offers abundant buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of international cuisine and middle eastern, including lots of salads, seafood and sweets. Usually we don't take an all inclusive package, but this was a special cheap last minute offer. Because of the good food we didn't regret it at all.

We had a relaxed stay of 6 days. We visited the beach of the hotel for the first try-out of my snorkeling gear and underwatercover of my camera before doing the serious work in Ras Mohamed NP.

Within a few minutes we were in the middle of the town with all the shops, bars and restaurants. In the night we found out that due to this location so close to the citycentre, we heard the music of the bars and disco's till 3-4am. By closing the balcony doors or using our earplugs, we solved this problem.

Unique Qualities: The splendid views from the room and balcony at the bay, the sea and the mountains at the background. The rooms and balconies were spacious. The rooms have airconditoning, satellite TV, a mini bar and 24 hour room service.

During our first stay in Na'ama Bay we visited the Sonesta Beach Resort daily and spent a lot of time at the private beach of the resort as paying guest. So we had the intention to book this hotel for our second stay in Na'ama Bay. Unfortunatily we couldn't find an appropiate package deal from the Netherlands. In the resort we found out that several travel agents skipped the resort because they started to sell only all inclusive arrangements.

At the main entrance at the Peace Road are two cannons just for decoration, though the security check at the entrance is very severe. So you are not allowed to enter, if you are not living in the hotel. After talking with the reception and the manager we were allowed to walk around the complex while wearing a 'visitors' badge.

In the complex are several shops and boutiques, restaurants, bars, a rooftop terrace, a dive centre and a private beach.

Unique Qualities: We especially liked the white arabic domed rooms, situated around the inner garden dominated by the romantic swimmingpool with a lovely bridge.

The first time in Sharm el Sheikh, we stayed in the Oasis Hotel. This small hotel was a very cosy and peacefull place, from where we had a splendid view at the desert. You could walk straight from your room into the desert. And if you cross the Peace Road, you are within a few minutes at the beach and the Na'ama Bay boulevard. We hired a room with a bath for 40 $ (breakfast included). There were also very cheap reed huts with shared bathrooms, mostly hired by students coming for scubadiving.

In 2007 we came to check if the hotel is still there, because along the road you seen huge hotel complexes everywhere. We were surprised this small hotel was still there, so we entered and looked around and were shocked. The reception and restaurant were out of order. The rooms were still in use, maybe not by tourists, but by Egyptian people wroking in the booming tourist industry. We asked the people of the pharmacy in the same building. They don't know what the owner will do with the hotel.

So maybe the next time, it will be in the same bad or even worse state, or sold to a big company fro a huge hotelcomplex or shoppingmall or who knows renewed to the same cosy small hotel it ever was.

If you don't like to go to one of the large resorts or hotels, the smaller Oasis Hotel was a good alternative with all its rooms on the ground floor. The first time we came to Na'ama Bay we enjoyed our stay here. We had really good memories, so inn 2007 we came back to check the place.

The beloved central area of the hotel at the edge of the desert was a disaster. The nice bedouin tent, where you could have a rest, a drink, a tea or waterpipe in a very relaxing atmosphere 11 years before was gone. Though also the view at the desert was disappeared, the place itself has still the possilblity to become again the same relaxed and cosy place after some maintenance of the garden and renewal of the buildings. Let's see what will happen in the future.
