"Amedi" Al `Amadiyah by sachara

Al `Amadiyah Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 20 photos

Amedi is a fortress-like ancient town built on the top of a high mountain.

Amedi is located 90km east of Duhok. On the way to Amedi we had great views at the town, towering at a hilltop. From the mountain resort of Sulav and beyond.

In the town itself there isn't much left of old Amedi. There are some old gates, an old mosque with minaret, a dome and some pieces of the fortress wall.
From the Bahdinan gate you have good views at the surrounding landscape

Impressive pics of a great country and it looks so peaceful - but today's reality is different, fear and terror dominate the region - almost a no go . Ali you did a interesting trip - almost at the last minute !

Iraqi Kurdistan is a very interesting region to visit. You can fly to Erbil and Slemani (for example with Lufthansa from Frankfurt, like I did) and visit Iraqi Kurdistan safily. You can compare it with our visit to safe Somaliland, while Somalia is a no go area. Please don't avoid the Kurdish Region now. The people appreciate you will visit the region just now. In Erbil you get a stamp for a 10 day stay in the autonomous Kurdish provinces without needing an Iraq visum. You are right the rest of Iraq is dominated by war and terror and a no go area.
