  • In the south-west and mid-west of Togo are beautifull hills, forests and waterfalls.

You can visit Badou or Fazao-Malfacassa National Park.

Badou is in the heart of the cacao-area, 88 KM west from Atakpame. You can also reach Badou from the ghanaian border, like we did, but it's not easy to find the border station from the Ghanaian side.

From Badou you can visit Les Cascades d' Akloa. We camped in the small village at the foot of the hill, from where you can hike up hill to the falls in 40 minutes.

  • It is nice to travel from the south to the north. You can see the changes in landscape.

In the south-west and mid-west are hills with thick forest and in the north are flat open grasslands and savannah.

  • In the north of Togo are a lot of compounds to see at the roadside on the way from Sokodé to Dapaong. There are round and square huts like in the south of Burkina Faso.

  • The road from Sokode to Dapaong pass the Keran National Park. it's the main road from the south to the north.
It's forbidden to make a stop in the park.
We didn't see much wildlife, only this animal, a deer.....

  • At the road-side of the main road from the south to the north we saw these wood- and charcoalsellers. We made a stopp for buying some wood for our brousse-kitchen.
I always like these stops for buying the essentials like wood and water.

  • Like everywhere in Africa we saw a lot of playing kids at the road-side.
When our truck was passing by, most of the time the children stopped their play and had a very curious look at those white strangers.

  • Lome is the capital of Togo with about 675.000 inhabitants. Except the major supermarkets, banks, internetcafes and the national museum, we visited, you can go to the north-east part of the town, to a very peculiar market, the fetish market or Marche de Feticheurs with about 20 stalls with all kind of traditional medicined and objects for voodoo practice.

  • We visited the fetish market in the afternoon at the hottest time of the day. So we were the only two visitors at that moment.
The guide first looked for an umbrella to protect himself against the sunshine before he started his explanation of all the strange objects we saw at the stalls.
We had to bargain a lot to get down the asked price of 20 $ per person for admissiont and use of our camera. We were warned, so at the end we paid 1$ admission each and the same amount for the use of the camera.
We saw the most strange objects, like this mummified monkey.

  • At the fetish market or Marche de Feticheurs you can find the most peculiar objects for voodo practice and as traditional medicines.
So we saw a lot of skulls, bones, skin, teeth and mummies of all kind of animals.
On one of the stalls we found also a lot of shields of turtles. Our guide tried to explain what the use and strength is of all the artefacts.

Things To Do: Ever seen so many heaped crocodiles?

  • At one of the stalls of the Marche de Feticheurs in Lome we saw dozens of mummified crocodile-heads.
Don't ask me for what these heads or the other mummified animals are used. At the moment we visited the market there were only a few other tourists around a the moment we were ready to leave the place.
So we didn't see any business of customers.

Could I ask for drumming and dancing for breakfast in that camping? So, what do they do with those dead crocodile's heads? I hope the doctor you visited was not expensive, he?
