A journey for the senses

A journey to Malaysia is really exciting. Especially if it's the first journey to Asia. And so was it for me...

A very good friend of mine lived already for 4 years in Malaysia (Penang), when I had the possibility to visit him in April 2002 - unfortunately, only for 10 days.

Malaysia is greatly varied and is an all-year destination.
Here is a short survey:

East Malaysia
The powerful summit of the Kinabalu in east Malaysia invites, first of all, adventurer. There are the typical Long House Sarawaks and it's possible to make a trekking trip in the rain forest of the national park Taman Negra.

East coast
The east coast of the malay peninsula is a paradise for sun worshipper and watersport friends.

West coast
Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Penang on the west coast of Malaysia offers a lot of culture, shopping possibilities and culinary culminations, no matter if it's in cultivated hotels or in small street hawker - like I always preferred .

Langkawi
On the northern coast of Malaysia is the group of 105 islands Langkawi. Certainly, the tourism has reached the islands in the end of the 80s, it could beware its rural charm.

Unfortunately, in my few days stay I could visit only the west coast and Langkawi. But I will return definitely sometime. Then I will visit the other parts of the country.

People and culture

The society is variegated, rites and languages are as well different as numerous. The consuetudes of the chinese, indians and europeans together with the strong native culture of the malay people, makes the country multicultural.

Official language and school language is Bahasa Malay (malay). Nevertheless, over years a colloquial speech of all social classes has come out. So it is not unusual, that somebody applies malay, chinese, indian and english words in a single sentence. For tourists it's really easy in Malaysia , because almost everybody speaks the english language.
