What is there to say about Abu Simbel??? Most people will have heared about it. How it was saved from the rising waters of the Nile after the High Dam was built in Aswan, after the Nile turned in to be Lake Nasser. There are many ways to visit these tempels. There are two. The Ramses II Tempel and the Nefertari tempel. Nefertari was Ramses II most beloved wife (he had many!), his favourite one, his Queen! They both loved the Nubian country of Egypt, that is why these Tempels were built. It is a love affair! When you are sentimental... But maybe it is a quest for power.. Nefertari requesting such a magnificent place as well...Who knows.... Guess I am sentimental... I think the Nefertari Tempel was built because Ramses loved Nefertari so much. He granted her the magnificent place she got over here. This was their most beloved spot, the place they wanted to be remembered. Ramses didn't want to be remembered without her. His love for Nefertari is portrayed all over Egypt. In the delicate art and paintings of her tomb, in the naughty mural in Karnak, where Amun Ra embraces Mut (look at my Luxor Tips), in this place of Abu Simbel... It is a place of love shared, and respect shared. I donīt think Ramses could have been the great pharao he was without Nefertari. But she always stayed humble. |
| | Lake Nasser Sunset Every body is talking about the sunsets in Egypt. And they are awesome!!! This one is taken from our cruise ship crossing Lake Nasser to Abu Simbel. |
Another Sunset Well, I leave this picture to be judged by you all. It has 2 of my most beloved people in it at my most beloved place on earth. | | |
