Cambridge is one of my favourite cities in England. It is a good daytrip from London which if you have the time you really should do. It is small enough that you can walk around and see most of it in a day. We have been a couple of times and in summer it is great fun to hire a boat and go punting down the river. Right at the end you can moor your boat and have a drink at the pub before heading back (as bit more wobbly going back!)
