Hartebeespoort Dam is about a 45 minute drive from Johannesburg and is therefore popular as a weekend getaway. There is a reptile park, restaurants and now a Golf Course as well. You can sail, windsurf or water-ski on the dam. The surrounding area is mountainous so you can go hiking and abseiling. There is a cable car to the top of one of the mountains where you will see hang gliders jumping from specially built ramps.

great photo of the dam ive caught quite a few fish there . by hand when they open the sluesh gates the one day as we were driving by.............kenneth

it's become quite a pleasant area for tourist from near and far> during winter, oranges from the area are well priced at the roadside stalls.
