As I remember, the storm left over 25,000 dead, missing or homeless. Due to the villages being swept away the official count was never determined. La Ceiba is the third largest city in Honduras, and is probably the country's most vibrant. A relatively young city, it got its name from a huge Ceiba tree that was next to the beach and provided shade to the workers at the dock and locals during the afternoon. I think this would have been a nice city to visit in better times. Although many bananna trees on plantations were destroyed, I am glad I was still able to have pineapple. When it is picked fresh.....it's incredible. Need a web site? Go to: http://www.honduras.com/ <IMG SRC=http://www.honduras.com/flag.gif>
