Etap Hotel Manchester Salford Quays: Pretty good (no longer etap now ibis budget) Etap Hotel Manchester Salford Quays Review
Show Prices

Well first off what was right with the place. The sheets/bedding were clean as where the towels, toilet and shower. The location was excellent and staff seemed friendly enough although never spoke to them much except at check in. The price was also excellent at £18 per night as we booked in advance. The reception was manned 24 hours and there was also a tv in the room although it only had the main five channels, bbc news and one of the other tv channels and a foreign channel even my tv at home gets more channels with a built in aerial but to be honest really wasn't a problem at all for us as we werent there to watch tv. There is a bar and grill across the street and Frankie and Bennies, Chiquto restaurant. The Petrol station next door has 24 hour subway restaurant. There is a Tesco couple minutes walk and Morrisons less than 10 minutes walk away on same street as hotel. The hotel is also situated around 10-15 minutes walk from Old Trafford and 15-20 minutes walk from the cricket stadium. Also about 10-15 minute walk from the Lowry and Lowry outlet with the war museum also situated just over the bridge from here. Two tram stops close to hotel one across the street the other just behind the petrol station. What was wrong first off bunk bed was not made at all during whole stay despite the fact it was very obviously being used well it was made but by me. Secondly carpet in room was dirty/dusty only noticed as I had just had shower came out got dried put on clothes then realised socks where on other side of the room so in five paces to were I had left my socks feet were dirty don't expect much for £18 (April 2012) a night but I at least expect the room to be hoovered this was on first night shortly after we arrived so the dirt/dust must have been from previous guests. Also they have a reuse your towel policy in the hotel where if your towel is dirty you leave it on the floor and its taken away to be washed and your given a fresh towel or if your happy to reuse it you hang it up fantastic in theory only as staff ignore this policy and wash all towels regardless. Pillows where not the best but I have had worse. All in all this was a good pleasant stay and a very reasonable price however it could have been an excellent stay. also this is a budget hotel so dont expect toiletries or tea and coffee facilities in the room. There is a drinks machine at reception and they sell snacks and things not sure exactly what as didn't look. They also do an all you can eat continental buffet breakfast for £4.35 (as at April 2012) however Frankie and Bennies is right across the street where you can get a very large cooked breakfast for £5. Something that was not a problem for us but could be for other is that all rooms have double bed with single bed over the top which is fine, the problem groups of friends could encounter is the shower set up which I actually like but I can see a problem for others as the shower is in the room and I mean literally you step out of the shower cubicle straight into the room so this offers little privacy. I have stayed at etap in Southampton before and they are very similar. Our stay for the price paid was pretty good not sure I would have thought it was good if I had paid full price though. We stayed Sunday to Friday so didn't experience any noise from other guests or traffic outside with the exception of hearing an emergency vehicle siren on two or three occasions as the window was open but that cant be helped but otherwise we never noticed any noise from the trams or traffic and our room was on the side of the hotel directly over looking the tram line and we had the window opened most nights as it was warm.

Old Trafford Lodge: Brilliant place to stay Old Trafford Lodge Review
Show Prices

The Old Trafford lodge is owned by the Lancashire county cricket club and its in the ground of the cricket stadium itself. Some of the rooms look onto the cricket grounds and have balconies so that you can relax and enjoy the match. Rooms a nicely decorated and beds were found to be comfortable. Small but adquete toilet with shower very modernly decorated. Towels are supplied. All rooms have tea and coffee facilities including nice selection of biscuts and hot chocolate. Trousser press, Iron and hairdryers. Small wardrobe but lots of drawer space and satalite tv and freeview. Continental breakfast is included in the price of the room and this is a buffet consisting of bread roll, croissants, cereals, danish pastrie, toast, meats and cheese, fruit, juice, tea and coffee etc.

I would recommened this hotel as the staff were friendly, everything was found to be in good working order and it was clean and its only 15- 20 mins by road from city centre or about 10 mins by tram.

This hotel is used for a variety of travellers with lots of business travellers using the hotel as well as sports fans and those just looking for a few days away.

Unique Qualities: On the cricket ground with some views over this. Only 5 mins walk from Manchester united football stadium (aka old trafford) and a 20 miniute walk from the Lowerey musuem, Imperial war museum, and the Lowery designer outlet. 24 hour reception buffet continental breakfast, friendly very helpful staff, quiet area with a few pubs in close proximaty. Some rooms also have balconies.

Nothing was to much trouble for the staff at this hotel and they went out of there way to help us. The only thing I think its lacking is that it could make a lot of business through a restraunts serving meals at night. Also bar had good selection of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks but it was pretty expensive but this tend to be standard in British hotels.

There are also rooms that have been adapted for use of wheelchair users and a lift.

Address: Lancashire County Cricket Club, in front of old trafford tram stop

Price Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: Between old trafford tram stop and trafford town hall

Price: US$80-120
