I'm a resident of Freiburg (student at university) and thought giving visitors some "insider" tips. Hope you all enjoy your stay in town, and are able to see something you like.
Freiburg has about 200,000 inhabitants, and is often described as a "big village", because distance are rather small. Freiburg is not a city for cars. Better leave your car in one of the parking lots outside the city (Park & Rail), and buy yourself a ticket for public transporcy. The PT is excellent, and brings you also to Black Forest mountains, the Rhine River and other regional points of interest in short time without stress. Renting a bike might also be a good idea to discover the town.

- Pros:nice historical city, varying landscapes (Black Forest, Rhine River, Kaiserstuhl) around, much to see, friendly open people (for German dimensions), close to France/Switzerland, close to Black Forest, Lake of Constance
- Cons:a bit too hot in summer, not everybody speaks English
- In a nutshell:See it ... it's worth to see ...

Hi, you have a well-presented Freiburg page. I was not able to visit via Strasbourg but it seems to be a very nice student town.
A nice page of the nice twin city of Innsbruck. I disagree about the wine but maybe we should a "viertele schlotzen". I remember driving through the fog which is more influential than volcanic soil ...
....just forgot to say, that i nevertheless really like to study in Freiburg!...and concerning Heidegger - in my opinion his thoughts are worth to admire and worth to think about - not regarding at his political point of view.Take care!
