This was my husbands' and mine first "Erste Bundesliga" game and all that thanks to Marcus, our friend and my husbands' colleague from the office. WOW! We were stunned with the stadium.
"Klauss Family" tent in Wasen 2005
Before I came to Germany to live, Octoberfest in Munich was the only beer festival I knew of here. But I've been told that Stuttgart has one that is as good and popular as the Munich one. In here, it is Wasen. What I also learned is that it's not a beer festival but a celebration of harvest just with a lot of beer thrown in! Everything is decorated in the theme of harvest with various vegetables, autumn colors and, naturally, livestock that is carried over from ancient times as a celebration of life.
You have pleanty of things to do here, but I suggest that you come in day time if you are with children because it gets very crazy and rowdy. Predominantly in a good way but non the less lot's of drunk people falling down. If you are not with kids, NIGHT TIME for sure!!!!!!!
In the picture you can see one of many tents where you can listen to traditional German music, have traditional southern German food (Schwabische and Bayernische with some austrian thrown in) and of course, drink traditional BIER (it's beer for you only english speaking ppl :)

Two handed beer chug
Even if you are not a beer lover it is not an excuse not to go to a beer tent. The food and atmosphere are reason enough alone to have fun. But enough of the boring stuff!
And for you beer lovers, well German beer is known around the world to be the best and justifyably! I would recommend to have "wiessen" beer. Many people who don't even like beer, once they've tried weissen found it pleasant to the palette. Weissen is a wheat beer. It's cloudy and the taste borders on the sweet side... in a word: GREAT!!! Why do you think I could drink a whole litre, and then some!
While speaking of that, be aware that it is rather difficult to find smaller stiens during the weekend. After all, the principle must be held! It is the weekend! :) Small ones are available only during weekdays (we don't want people going around drunk! :)
See ppl in the pic? Well, they are just following the instructions given by band. Seriously! The band actually stands on the stage and as they sing, they tell the crowd what they should do next. It's fun and it's funny because you have to have in mind the amount of beer these people have had. Everybody sings and dances disregarding the age and sex. You even have groups of people coming dressed in the same T-shirts representing their regions, cities, towns, sports teams etc. Many foreigners come to enjoy this great festival and are warmly welcome by the locals as they are helped with the instructions the band is giving to the people by their German speaking "comarades in beer".
As I was saying, lot's and lot's of tents with good beer, food and music so it's rather difficult to pick one! My hubby and I liked this one the most because of it's lively colors. It's owned by Klauss family and it's huge to the tune of 5000 guests! That is JUST GUESTS, not service staff which numbers in the hundreds themselves! There is also a rather large stage with pretty modern and uptodate lighting and sound system. Up to par with modern concert tour! Not to mention that the band is outstanding which also gets "happier" (as in beer happier :) as the evening comes because they do not hesitate to participate in their own festivities as they encourage the crowd to take part in the fun. They'll do beauty competitions, make everybodysing and dance, climb benchs', tables and at times, one another if they are "merry" enough.
