Visiting Pompei was one of the things I looked forward the most this summer. I love visiting historical sights and after seing remains of Ancient Greece, Egypt, Roman Empire was next on my list. What I didn't know is that Pompei was not part of this Empire, but it was independant.

Day trip to Pompei is more than interesting, but also more than tireing. Spending most of the daywalking in the sun is not easy, but after you see how beautiful it is... Just make sure that you visit it with someone who is also very interested in history and is not affraid of walking the whole day!

I made the mistake of allowing only one day at Pompeii. Its was larger than you think. Its divided in half so you have to pay twice to see both parts.Barry in Louisiana

Excellent page with superb photos and great tips. I have not yet been to Pompei but should go one day… It is amazing how the Roman built cities everywhere around the Mediterranean. I have just built several pages on Roman Tunisia. A lot to see, too!

Fantastic photos and information! We loved Pompeii - spent a whole day there, and could've spent another 2!! Saw the same people in the glass tombs - that was a really freaky feeling! Greetings from Australia :) Trina
