Plettenberg Bay

by Alimacg - last update: Dec 28, 2008

General time to visit

Rugged unpolluted coastline of Plett
Plett as the locals call it, is a wonderful place to visit...quiet and unspoilt, but to be avoided during the 16th Dec to 7th Jan rush of South Africans having their holiday: Gauteng-by-the-beach! Parking impossible and unless you are a party animal wanting to queue for restaurants - to be avoided!
However, for the rest - wonderful!
Knysna Heads

Special spots

Robberg Nature Reserve, Monkeyland, a primate sanctuary not just for kids:) The Elephant Sanctuary for a real up close and personal encounter with Elephants:) One of those "warm fuzzy" moments to walk with an elephant and to have it hold your hand:)
Tsitsikamma about 60kms away, Knysna about 30 kms away, Lookout Deck for great calamari! One can sit and watch the whales when they come in during our winter months.
Birds of Eden - where people say that one only needs an hour and ends up spending three!!
Enricos on Keurbooms Strand also very special as is Milkwood Manor...which is RIGHT on the edge of the Keurbooms River.
One of the best shops around: The Old House Shop - something for everyone. In Knysna - the Featherbed Nature Reserve, and 34°South on the Waterfront.

Pros:"Beautiful beaches, wonderful national parks and walks, friendly folk"
Cons:"Just can get very busy over Christmas"
In A Nutshell:"The gem of the Garden Route"
