Welcome to India

by Vintom - last update: Oct 22, 2003

North & South India

Mamallapuram beach
Hi & Welcome to my India pages.
The bits and pieces on these pages are cobbled together from two seperate trips. The First in 2001 to the North of the country, the Second in 2002 to the South of the country.

Let me take you on a virtual trip through India, as I recount my experiences of the first trip I made there in 2001. This for me was a very big eye opener and taught me a lot, not only about India, but travel in general. To read the first travelogue from these trips go to the travelogue section on the bottom of this page where the first 5 parts are stored, the remaining 5 parts can be found on my Delhi travel page. Or you can read all my travelogues housed on my external web page, which can be accessed from my Home page here on VT.

India itself is a vast place and not the kind of journey you are likely to explore fully on a two week stay. There is just so much to see and do, it would be impossible for me to even scratch the surface of all the wonderful places and sights there are in this country. I will Just comment on places I have been to and what I thought of them, they will be in no particular order, but i'm sure that most people who are intending to visit India will go to one or two of these places i list.

Holy Men and Holy cows!

Religion plays a major role in the life of almost every Indian, the majority of them, some 80% of a population in excess of 700 million being Hindu. The country is awash with Temples, and statues of the various Gods worshipped. Then there are the Holy Men and Holy cows. The Cows and Holy men for that matter, roam freely in almost all towns and cities. Both surviving on the handouts of the generous people. The holymen are known as Sadhus, men who have devoted their lives to serving and worshiping these Gods.

Rich in History and Culture

India is like no other country i have visited. It is a place steeped in both history and culture. Add to this the colours, smells and sometimes frantic way of life in the cities and you are in for a facinating trip, or at least a trip you are not likely to forget in a hurry!

Look through my pages here of tips to explore India a little further. I will try to highlight some of the special places and things I found of intrest while in the amazing country.

Pros:"A Country of Many splendid sights and Welcome Hospitality."
Cons:"The poverty levels can get you down."
In A Nutshell:"I love India and would recommend anybody to visit this Wonderful country."
