One day before goingSo tomorrow me and my boyfriend are off to Dublin. The green island. So what am I expecting? I don't really know. It is easter time, so I guess that we will run into a lot of things being closed... someone also said that Dublin is really ugly, so I want to see for myself if that is true... what do I expect? To have a few day relaxed in a new place enjoying the adventure of a new country and being with my boyfriend - on my own!! ;-)
I have wanted to go to Ireland since I in 2002 was an au pair in Madrid. There I met a Polish girl (yep this story is a bit international ;-)) and together we celebrated Skt. Patricks day in Madrid in an Irish pub, talking to a couple of Irish people there - telling us about their hometown which was somewhere just outside of Dublin, and telling us how great, fun, etc. it is in Dublin.
So now I'm off tomorrow... wish me the best of travelling - and I'll be back in a week or so with pictures and stories about how it really is on the green island!
Regards to all my VT friends. Christina

| The Green Island - The Green Souvenirs | Two days after returning homeSo what can I tell now that we have been to Dublin - and have come back?
We started our mini-vacation rather bad: by missing the flight! We arrived to late at the airport because of bad traffic, and since Ryanair is not exactly known for letting anybody on board after closing check-in we were stranded... Bad luck! Got a new flight and arrived around 3:30 in the nighttime to the hotel Travellodge which was a really nice hotel. A bit outside of the center, but in a nice and quite neighbourhood. The last night we stayed at Abraham House, a hostel closer to the center of the city, which - apart from being a hostel and me liking better the privacy in a hotel - impressed me with having the nicest staff at the reception I have ever met. The staff was really really really helpfull and smiling all the time. It was really a big plus!
We had only three days in Ireland, so we stayed two days in the city of Dublin, and spend one day going first a bit south to Bray, and then afterwards a bit north to Malahide. Both villages that can be recommended, but especially Malahide since there is a beautiful beach and also a castle. |
In Dublin we went around on foot - enjoying the sun (we were really lucky with the weather) - and also took the tour of the red turist bus. It was a nice way to see the city and get about.
We visited different sites, but only went in at the Guinness Fabrics. We didn't feel like visiting much museums nor turisty-places, mostly because we felt like we had to little time to do so - and we also wanted to just "get into the rythem of the city".
We sure did get time to visit various "Irish Pubs" - around Temple Street, but also further outside of the citycenter. It was nice to sit and just enjoy the atmosphere of a real Irish pub, and not just an "Irish pub" abroad.
I will at any time recommend going to Dublin, but I will at the same time advise you to go outside of Dublin to see some of the beautiful nature!
